About Us

AcuIT is a small IT business based in Wollongong on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. We like to build software, of just about any variety. Currently we are focussing on web-based development, such as jQuery, Joomla and Wordpress.

The name AcuIT is a play on the word acuity, which means keenness or acuteness, especially in vision or thought.

About The Owner

Experts Exchange BadgeHi. My name is Chris Burgess. Here is my linked in profile. I graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2006 with a double degree in Mathematics / Computer Science (with Distinction). I then worked at Wollongong City Council for a year in the Civil Infrastructure department performing a range of IT related tasks including managing Access databases, and working with GIS software. I couldn't suppress the need to return to University, however, which I then did for the following year completing a Master of Computer Science, majoring in Intelligent Systems, graduating with a High Distinction average.

From my days at Uni, I have a broad range of programming skills, being fairly proficient with C/C++, Java, C#, amongst others. I'm currently investing a great deal of time in a number of web-based technologies including Javascript, jQuery, PHP, as well as learning the in's and out's of various CMS's, in particular Joomla! and Wordpress. I am also a certified expert at one of the world's leading IT websites, Experts Exchange, which means I get to show off a nice little badge.

And just to be completely open and honest about things, I am currently AcuIT. In other words, this business is my own individual enterprise, sole trading under the name AcuIT. I apologise if using 'we' throughout the website has caused any confusion, and I am not simply trying to con you into thinking that we are bigger than we really are! The somewhat editorial use of the 'we' throughout this website has been done for 2 reasons. Firstly, given the use of the business name to help further brand recognition, it sounds more sensible (at least to me) to refer to a business as 'we', rather than 'I'. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the use of 'we' has been done to more easily accommodate any future expansion. While AcuIT is simply an 'I' at the moment, it may not always be the case, and I would rather not have to re-write the entire website, and all our documentation, if that happens.
